Corona: – 170 students in quarantine

All of the approximately 170 students in the six 10th grades at Majorstuen school in Oslo were abruptly placed in corona quarantine from last Friday due to a confirmed covid-19 infection in a student and a teacher student in practice at the school.

It was the district superintendent in the school’s district Frogner who last Thursday sent the email about a positive covid-19 test and the quarantine to several hundred addressees – mainly students, parents and employees.

Dagbladet receives confirmation of the e-mail’s content, including the outbreak and quarantine, of the district.

On Tuesday, on the fifth quarantine day, and well into the school’s autumn holiday, a new email came to the same, large, group – now from one of the leaders in the administration at Majorstuen school.

– We now have a new case of infection at the school, this time it is an employee who has been diagnosed with covid-19, and this is associated with the infection at 10th grade, it says in the update from the school management.

Parties in quarantine

The school also has another message with serious admonition to students who are already in quarantine:

– In relation to further spread, it is also worrying that we have received reports that students in quarantine have participated in several parties this weekend. This is a clear violation of the quarantine rules, and we are concerned about the consequences this will have in the future, the school management writes.

Majorstuen school has about 1000 students and 150 employees.

On the school’s hotline on Tuesday afternoon, Dagbladet is informed that principal Katrine Sølvberg is the only one who will comment on the situation. The person in charge should inform that Dagbladet wanted contact. Dagbladet has also tried to call the principal directly.

The Rector has not provided any feedback or responded to a call from Dagbladet.

– More questions than answers

Several students and parents have approached Dagbladet about a situation they feel raises more questions than answers.

On the websites of Majorstuen school On Tuesday night, no information was posted about the quarantine or what happens to an extended infection situation.

– It was good that quick information came out about the infection just before the autumn holidays. One of the others in 10th grade, for example, was to visit his sick grandmother in another part of the country. It was nice that that visit was stopped with the quarantine, says one of the 10th graders in the quarantine to Dagbladet.

– Very immature to attach

– What do you think about the fact that fellow students in quarantine have participated in several parties, as it says in the last message?

– It’s very immature, very stupid. I do not know who it is about, but both we quarantine students and parents talk a lot about how many and who it can be. The lack of information creates uncertainty ahead of the new school day on Monday, says the 10th grader.

The student says that many people wonder about practical questions in the situation that suddenly arose, including whether they can go for a walk.

– And many of us have talked about, both before and after the quarantine, whether it was wise to take teacher training students into practice in the current infection situation. In our class, there were at least eight students from outside, says the student in 10th grade.
