Core i9-12980HK: The fastest mobile CPU for 2022, surpasses the Apple M1 Max

Although Apple is trying to create the opposite impression, the x86 architecture will remain on the performance throne for the next year. The first performance result in GeekBench shows that the notebook’s top model of the Intel series Alder Lake achieves higher single- and multi-core performance than the top model Apple M1 Max. Although the comparison is purely academic for the time being, neither can be bought, but the results can be taken as the outlook to 2022, for most of which these products will be among the most powerful mobile processors available:

In the context of comparing the Apple M1 Max with the Core i9-12900K, it is worth noting that we are comparing an Apple product made on a 5nm TSMC process (probably its second generation: N5P) with an Intel product made on its fourth generation 10nm process renamed “Intel 7”. Surprisingly, Intel does not make this generation difference a problem and manages to overcome the M1 Max in a single thread even when all processor cores are loaded.

The availability of both products is expected at the end of this year; both manufacturers would obviously like to catch up with the pre-Christmas season, but how well they manage to catch them with the current supply difficulties is, of course, the second thing.
