Córdoba alerts to the passage of tropical waves

With an orange and yellow alert, the environmental authorities in Córdoba are maintained before the passage of tropical waves this weekend in Córdoba. In the last hours there were heavy rains and in some cases accompanied by electrical activity.

“Given these conditions, the environmental authorities in Córdoba declared a yellow alert in the lower basin of the Sinú River corresponding to Montería and the municipality of Lorica,” reported the Regional Autonomous Corporation from the Valleys of Sinú and San Jorge.

It should be remembered that for a period of five months the department of Córdoba in public calamity due to the emergency unleashed in several municipalities by the constant rains that hit this area of ​​the country.

“For the municipalities of Tierralta and Valencia, the orange alert was declared. Yellow alert on Scrambled due to rising water levels, while warning of possible landslides in the rural area of ​​Puerto Libertador, Montelíbano and San José de Uré ”, says the environmental authority.

The government of Córdoba reported that it has had machinery to attend critical points susceptible to rivers or streams that can generate floods.

“Instructions have been given in what has to do with the bank of machinery and with steps that have been developed in the area of ​​humanitarian aid to provide an immediate response. In order to continue making progress in addressing this calamity, the Government’s assistance is undoubtedly required. Several municipalities have been declared in calamity for the same reason ”, said Aldrín Pinedo Sánchez, director of Risk Management of Córdoba.

The meteorological authorities warned about the prolongation of the rains until mid-November.

“We wanted to have the time necessary to adequately and immediately address the public calamity due to the rains,” added Pinedo Sánchez.

In Córdoba municipalities such as Canalete, Cereté, Ciénaga de Oro, Los Córdobas, Montería, San Pelayo and San José de Uré issued their own decree of public calamity.

“Each municipality evaluates its situation of public calamity, what we do as a department is to provide knowledge and risk management in the company of CVS,” said the director of Risk Management.

It was learned that the help of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management to attend to the calamity.
