The Spanish first division soccer club UD Levante can hope to make it into the final of the Copa del Rey for the first time. The club from Valencia scored 1: 1 (1: 0) in the semi-final first leg against the former permanent cup winner Athletic Bilbao on Thursday. Gonzalo Melero (26th) scored the important away goal for Levante, Inigo Martinez (58th) scored to equalize.
In the other semifinals, record winners FC Barcelona have to worry about progressing. On Wednesday, the team of superstar Lionel Messi and the German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen lost 2-0 at Sevilla FC. The second legs in Barcelona and Valencia will take place on March 3rd and 4th.
With 23 triumphs, Bilbao is the second most successful club in the history of the Copa del Rey, only Barcelona (30) have won more often. However, the last time the Basques won the trophy was in 1984.
