Controversial French corona pass and vaccination obligation for healthcare workers are coming

The controversial French corona law is coming. Last week both Houses of the French parliament already agreed, now the Constitutional Council has also largely approved the legislation. This is the last hurdle for the law.

From next week, French people and people visiting the country will only be allowed to enter bars, restaurants and some shopping centers if they are in possession of a corona pass. This only applies to shopping centers if local authorities decide to do so and there is a high risk of contamination. People must always have access to essential goods.

To get the pass, you must prove that you have been vaccinated, show that you have recently recovered from the virus or show a negative corona test.

There will also be a vaccination obligation for healthcare workers. The government of President Macron considers these measures necessary to prevent the emergence of the delta variant of the corona virus.

Protest

Tens of thousands of people went the past weeks took to the streets to protest against the law. Opponents think the rules go too far. The council does not agree with those objections. According to the council, the law does not violate the French constitution because the law aims to protect the health of the population.
