CONTRIBUTION – Pastry: Art and sweetness in a Caribbean festival

Artistic pastry is present on digital platforms. Through them, the Azucaribe festival will fill the world of virtuality with art and flavor. It is an event that will bring together experienced confectioners and sugar artists from four countries in Latin America, the United States and Spain.

The organizers have reported that on the fifth and sixth of this month of February through Facebook Live, the festival will take place to show the magic of pastry a ‘click’ away. It is free for all the public, and seeks to put the talent of the exponents of this art to its maximum expression.

The initiative comes from the hand of María Laura Cristiano and Mariela Morán, who devised the interesting festival in which professionals of the art of sugar who enjoy international recognition, will be teaching classes through the virtual connection.

Organizers’ profile

María Laura Cristiano is of Argentine nationality and has lived in the Dominican Republic for 14 years. ‘Cake Designer’ of a profession in which he has been in business for 30 years, outstanding in teaching, and winner of two gold medals in New York at the ‘Sugarcraft’ festival, of the Société Culinaire Philanthropique. With studies completed in Italy, the United States, Argentina and the Dominican Republic.

Mariela Morán is a gastronomic instructor, ‘pâttisier’, ‘chocolatier’, living in Argentina, with 15 years of teaching in culinary art, she traveled to Switzerland representing Argentina at the Gusto festival.

He is a business administrator and professional pastry chef graduated from the Argentine Institute of Gastronomy and the Higher Institute for Hotel and Gastronomic Studies of Buenos Aires.

Co-owner of El Rincón del Pastelero and El Taller del Pastelero, I have 10 years of experience in gastronomy and pastry. He is a teacher and advisor in the area.

When answering what his participation in Azucaribe 2021 consists of, Yunes says: “We will be offering a free demonstration class on cake decorating, where the participant will have the opportunity to interact and learn various techniques on cutting-edge products in the area” .

As a contribution, he comments that, with his participation, he tries to bring empirical and professional knowledge to people who share the love of the art of sugar throughout America. “It is a challenge and an honor to represent our country in this international festival together with great teachers and artists and to show that in the Dominican Republic we can contribute great things to Sugar Art.”

Participants

From the Dominican Republic, the professional pastry chef Elvis Yunes Cabrera and the sugar artist Nicole Goyco will be participating. From Colombia Dalila Cabrita, from New York Nick Rincón; María Castro, Aixa Zunino and Catalina Anghel will represent Argentina; Gabriel Castillo and Mariela Morán to Spain, and from Mexico will be Willie Soto and Lili Cuellar. During the transmission of the classes, about 30 virtual classrooms and books will be raffled, from which they will be benefited anywhere in the world since it is by ‘online’ system. There will be a variety of bakery products and cake decorating kits in the Dominican Republic, Argentina, the United States and Puerto Rico, which the winners can pick up for use.
