“Judo is a sport that you can’t do until the mid -40s,” says Häßner. “So I believe that it was the right decision in the long run. The fact that everything developed so is on the one hand because of the system, and on the other hand, also because many injuries have thrown me far back.”
German champion with Esslingen
But the 29-year-old did not want to put the judo suit in the closet and completely put on the career after the career. He rarely takes part in international individual competitions. But even during the study and legal traineeship period, Häßner regularly competed for KSV Esslingen. And in 2023, the team managed to win after two runner-up and serial master TSV Abensberg and win the German championship. “It was an absolute highlight because we were twice as close and then finally won the title,” Häßner arranges. One last, big sporting goal for him is to become a master with the JSV Speyer.
Students know
But everyday school life in Markgröningen now demands the greatest attention for the Sindelfinger. He does not teach how one could think, as a sports teacher, but in the subjects of physics, business and NWT (science and technology). “I chose this on purpose in order to draw a conscious separation between professional and sporty.” However, it did not take long for his students to be in the picture about the sporting background of the new teacher. “I kept myself covered,” says Häßner. “But right on the second day, it was an issue for the older students. They googled my name and quickly found a lot.”
Häßner does not mourn sporty goals such as possible Olympic participation. “I may regret that I did not start studying later and have been focusing on sport for a long time. On the other hand, I never wanted to be a teacher.
