Since the sanitary crisis of the coronavirus, pedestrians are less numerous in the streets of Dijon, the road traffic is in sharp decline, and improved air quality. Even if a certain release has been seen in the past few days, the effects of the confinement in Dijon are still visible.

The tram and bus service minimum
Since march 17, the supply of public transport has been reduced. Now, only 25% of the trips offered by Divia is still in service. On the 180 000 passengers greeted on a daily basis, today they are less than 10 000 to use it each day, the tram and the bus. 94% decrease.

Monday, march 30, the operator Keolis Dijon Mobility, however, has decided to extend the running hours of certain bus lines. These buses will now be able to circulate until 22: 30, which is three hours more than the first few days of containment. This extension will allow the nursing staff and employees of long-term care facilities and nursing homes to be able to return home later in the evening.
A significant decrease in traffic on the ring road and the LiNO
With containment, the traffic cars also greatly diminished on the ring road of Dijon. In normal times, 28 000 vehicles circulate every day on the axis of 6.5 km connecting the N274 to the A38. According to figures provided by 31 march 2020 by the DIR-Center-Is, only 7000 crossings daily have been recorded in recent days.

The municipal services in a mode called “degraded”
In normal times, the city of Dijon and its suburbs count 2800 agents. Since the containment, they take turns to ensure a minimum service.
With the new organization, only 250 agents are present on the ground on a daily basis. Among them, the municipal police, employees of nurseries and schools to hold the children of the carer, the service “Allô mairie”, the collection services and household waste incineration, as well as the CCAS for the delivery of meals at home.
In addition, 800 officers are working at home. It is mainly used for computer services, communication, civil status and general affairs. Other agents have been placed under special authorization of absence.
One hundred citation by day in the city of Dijon
During his press conference on 3 April, the prefecture of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, announces that it has found a “some relaxation” among certain inhabitants of Dijon : “We have seen a little more of the world in the streets of Dijon, a bit more of the world in the spaces of walks, and probably a little too much of the world”said the prefect to the press, which mentions a hundred of citation a day in the city of dijon.
A better air quality ? Not necessarily
He, like the rest of the world, the pollution in France is in sharp decline. And this is also confirmed in Dijon. According to Anaïs Detournay, head of studies at ATMO-CFB :“There has been a significant decrease of pollutants related to traffic. It is clearly visible at Dijon.” It is, more specifically, the nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and nitrogen monoxide (NO). Should we then rejoice ? Yes and no. According to the specialist, the containment associated with the cool temperatures of these last days also has bad effects. For fifteen days, the air previous is much more loaded in fine particles : “They come from many of the residential sector and, in particular, of the heating, but also in agricultural activities. These activities are maintained in full these last few weeks, and we observed a significant increase in levels of fine particulate matter over the course of weeks.“

But according to ATMO-BFC there is no need to worry for as much. The levels achieved are not currently problematic : “these are developments that we observe in the conventional way at this time of the year”.
Only recommendation is to improve the quality of the air for containment : do not over-heat his housing.
