Contagion risk: why it is so difficult to prove corona immunity

I.In many different studies, scientists not only try to use antibody tests to determine the number of infected people, they also want to clarify one of the most important questions of this pandemic: Are corona patients immune after an infection? There’s more to find out what that means: being immune to Sars-CoV-2.

For example, it is not yet completely clear whether antibodies in the blood offer protection against further infection. Other building blocks of body defense may also be necessary. It is also unclear whether the immunity will last only weeks, months or years.

Without answers to these questions, it is difficult to estimate how long the coronavirus will determine our everyday lives, how many people will become seriously ill or die.

However, initial study results give reason for cautious hope.
