Consumption of Magnesium Supplements Is Proven To Reduce High Blood Pressure

INDOZONE.ID – High blood pressure or hypertension is a common condition that affects many people around the world. Over time, this pressure can cause the arteries to thicken, limiting the amount of blood flowing. Finally, vital organs can lack the blood they need to function.

That means it can lead to serious complications, such as stroke and heart disease.

Thus lowering high blood pressure is very important, in order to prevent this condition from occurring.

Diet has an important role to play in controlling high blood pressure. However, as reported by the Express, research has selected several items to lower high blood pressure.

One of the most beneficial dietary decisions is to take magnesium supplements, according to a meta-analysis.

The meta-analysis, published in the journal Hypertension, found that people in the study who took magnesium supplements had lower blood pressure after three months compared to people who did not take magnesium supplements.

The researchers found that taking 368 milligrams of magnesium supplements daily for three months reduced systolic blood pressure by an average of two millimeters of mercury (mm Hg), and reduced diastolic blood pressure by an average of 1.8 mm Hg.

Systolic pressure and diastolic pressure are two numbers used to record high blood pressure. Both are measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg).

Magnesium supplements may be considered as an option for lowering blood pressure in people at high risk or in hypertensive patients.

Apart from magnesium, it is important to include potassium and calcium in your diet to control blood pressure.

Potassium helps blood vessel walls relax, while calcium helps them properly tone and relax, explains Holland Barrett.

Sources of magnesium include dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach or kale, pumpkin seeds, whole grain foods such as brown bread or porridge, lentils, chickpeas and dark chocolate.
