Consumer prices stable in June

Consumer prices stagnated in June, stable in monthly comparison obtained by opposite trends which offset each other. Over one year, deflation in the order of 1.3% is noted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

The consumer price index stood at 101.4 points, unchanged from May, said the OFS on Thursday. Prices for international package tours and fruit and vegetables rose, as did fuel oil prices. Federal statisticians have calculated a drop for prices for air travel and hotel accommodation.

Core inflation – that is to say without fresh produce, energy and fuels – developed negatively, at -0.1% on a month and -0.8% in rhythm annual. Between May and June, consumer prices remained stable for both domestic and imported products. A fall of 4.2% is recorded for imported products, but in annual comparison (indigenous products -0.3%).

In its press release, the OFS recalls that the coronavirus pandemic has complicated the analysis of data. The figures linked to tourism, namely hotels, air transport and package travel, were still strongly impacted by the crisis. Apart from these positions, the quality of the statements corresponds to the usual standards, says the federal office.
