The President of the Port-au-Prince Bar Association was murdered in the early hours of Saturday, the Haitian police reported, about a death that caused consternation in this country ravaged by a worsening of insecurity.

According to the first indications of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), Dorval was shot and killed on arrival at his home.

“It appears that he was killed when he was about to close his fence,” said the deputy spokesman for the PNH. “We still cannot say how many attackers there were or what vehicles they had,” he replied.

The photo of the lawyer’s body riddled with bullets it quickly circulated through social media in Haiti, provoking the anger and indignation of citizens.

The worsening of insecurity and impunity has been denounced for several months by various civil society and human rights organizations.

On Thursday, a businessman was shot dead in his vehicle in the heart of the capital at noon without the perpetrators of the attack being identified or detained.

At the end of June and the beginning of July, two peaceful demonstrations organized in the capital to denounce this climate of insecurity were forcefully repressed by the police.

The gang members then marched through the streets of downtown Port-au-Prince, displaying their guns with shots into the air.

Between January and June, the United Nations office in Haiti noted that at least 159 people had died and another 92 had been injured due to gang violence.
