Congenital Heart Disease Can Be Treated Without Surgery

JawaPos.com Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is a heart disease that has been present since birth due to imperfect heart formation in the early stages of fetal development in the womb. Along with the development of technology, for the management of this disease can be overcome with non-surgical measures.

In an online webinar by Heartology Cardiovascular Center, Congenital Heart Disease Specialist dr. Radityo Prakoso said heart disease appeared since the child was still in the womb. Congenital heart disease interferes with the heart’s ability to pump blood and deliver oxygen throughout the body.

He also said that many patients come with a number of typical symptoms, namely the body of babies and children turning blue. This is the most characteristic feature experienced by children with congenital heart disease.

Radityo even often treats newborn patients with this disease. This disorder has been brought by the patient since he was still in the womb.

“I suggest to parents if their children have complaints, don’t go to a traditional healer or alternative. You have to go straight to the pediatrician. The most typical symptoms are blue and difficult to grow, “said dr. Radityo.

According to him, along with medical advances, currently several types of CHD can be treated without surgery. Zero Fluoroscopy (without radiation) catheter intervention is the latest technique for treating CHD without surgery.

It is known that radiation can cause long-term effects for both patients and doctors and the catheterization laboratory team. This procedure uses pure imaging aids from echocardiography, without the use of radiation beams.

“The advantages of Zero Fluoroscopy include short treatment days, use of less anesthetic and drugs, very small incision scars, and are more cost effective,” he said.

It is reported that the incidence of CHD is about 8 babies out of 1000 live births with 30 percent of them showing symptoms in the first weeks of life where most of the CHD patients are neglected (not treated properly).

CHD patients need at least one consultation with a cardiologist who specializes in Congenital Heart Disease. Patients with CHD have a three times greater life expectancy if properly treated by a cardiologist and congenital heart surgeon.
