Confrontation between the military and armed civilians leaves 8 dead in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas

BINATIONAL INVESTIGATION

An investigation carried out in Houston, Texas (USA), by the Office of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF, for its acronym in English) documented that the long weapons that have recently been seized from the Tropa del Infierno they were bought in an armory in that city.

Documents from the Houston Federal Court in Efe’s possession specify that Israel Chapa Jr., a young man who is currently detained in Houston, admitted to the AFT that he had sold several weapons to Victor Camacho, an American who lives in Brownsville, Texas.

The weapons purchased by Camacho were sold in Nuevo Laredo to members of the Northeast Cartel, including two Barrett .50 caliber submachine guns and one of them ended in the shooting registered in the town of Villa Unión, Coahuila, where 24 people died.

The attack on the Villa Unión Police took place on November 30, 2019 and about 150 hitmen from the Hell’s Troop participated with a total of 24 dead, including 18 suspected criminals, two civilians and four policemen.

2019 was the most violent year for Mexico since there is a record of 34,608 malicious homicides and 1,012 femicides.

In the first seven months of the year, the country registered 20,494 intentional homicides.
