Conflicts in the executive floor ?: VW separates from truck boss Renschler

For outsiders, the decision is made out of the blue – but “in the best of mutual agreement”: Volkswagen and the CEO of the Traton truck division, Renschler, go their separate ways. Something is also happening at MAN.

Volkswagen bangs its commercial vehicle board member Andreas Renschler. MAN boss Joachim Drees, who sits under Renschler on the board of the commercial vehicle holding company Traton, has to go, as Traton announced without giving any reasons. Both leave the company in the middle of next week.

Renschler’s successor at Traton is the former CFO Matthias Gründler, who left the company in 2018 “for personal reasons”. Personnel manager Gunnar Kilian Renschler takes on the tasks of the Volkswagen Group board. VW production director Andreas Tostmann follows Drees. Renschler had listed Traton on the stock exchange a good year ago. He has been managing the company since 2015.

Traton is fighting on several fronts

According to insiders, there had been conflicts on the Traton boardroom. The group, in which Volkswagen has bundled the Scania, MAN brands and the Volkswagen commercial vehicle business in South America, is fighting on several fronts. An accelerated downturn in the markets in the corona crisis, MAN’s lack of profitability and nested structures are causing problems for Traton. An austerity program with massive job cuts brought the traditionally powerful employees of the Volkswagen Group to the barricades.

The separation from Renschler was “in the best of mutual agreement,” said Volkswagen after a meeting of the Traton supervisory board. In the same words, Traton said goodbye to MAN boss Drees. The Traton supervisory board is chaired by Volkswagen supervisory board chairman Hans Dieter Pötsch.

At the same time as Drees and Renschler, Traton Head of HR Carsten Intra is leaving the commercial vehicle manufacturer, but remains in the Volkswagen Group. Intra becomes head of the small commercial vehicle division.
