Confessions from the Intensive Care Unit of the Republic of Moldova: Most patients are not vaccinated

According to the doctor, the Republican Hospital cannot be about patients waiting in the hallways to get a place in Intensive Care, but about a constant flow of patients who either die or are discharged, and their place is taken soon.

According to the head of Intensive Care at the Republican Hospital, the large number of positive COVID patients in recent times is explained by the increased contagion of the Delta strain, which wreaks havoc among both the elderly and young people and children.

“The Delta variant which is much more aggressive and has a hyperreactive body response. If in the first variant of the virus the elderly, mainly with comorbidities, got sick, now we have many young patients, ie the body responds to the infection with a hyperreactivity, it defends itself from this condition, the body’s response being much more violent than the primary aggression. This attacks the functionality of the cells. If the virus enters the cell, the situation becomes more serious, depending on the immune system and the dose of infection. Therefore, even if there will be 90% of the vaccinated population, the general protection measures must be respected, the social distance, the hygiene of the hands must enter our blood “, said professor Victor Cojocaru during the show” The Fourth Power “of the N4.

According to the professor, out of the total number of patients admitted to Intensive Care, most are unvaccinated. Moreover, unvaccinated people in Intensive Care have a lower chance of winning the fight against the disease.

“Intensive care beds are very expensive jobs. It includes ventilation, vacuum cleaner, invasive monitoring. In Intensive Care for 5-6 patients there is a doctor and a nurse for 4 patients. At the moment, in Intensive Care we have 48 patients with COVID-19. In our Intensive Care Unit, most patients are unvaccinated. There are practically no cases of deaths of vaccinated people. The vaccine helps the human body get through the disease in a mild form and avoids death. For those vaccinated, having antibodies, a good part of the virus is destroyed when it comes into the circuit “, Cojocaru added.

On October 19, in the Republic of Moldova, 36 people lost their lives due to COVID-19 infection.
