Conductor and pianist Reinbert de Leeuw (81) died

Pianist, conductor and composer Reinbert de Leeuw has passed away. A spokesperson for the family reports this to ANP news agency. De Leeuw was 81 years old.

De Leeuw is, among other things, the founder of the Schönberg Ensemble, with which he made music by modern composers available to a large audience for more than forty years. He also gained fame as a pianist with his recordings of works by Erik Satie.

De Leeuw received many awards and prizes for his work. In 2018 he received the Prince Bernhard Cultuurfonds Prize for his impressive oeuvre.
