Conditions for the Taliban to Suppress ISIS in Afghanistan

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Power Taliban from Afghanistan not just smooth. There are various threats that the Taliban must face in Afghanistan, one of which is an attack from the extremist group ISIS.

Previously, the Taliban had promised the United States that its group would keep Afghanistan free from terrorist groups such as ISIS. However, it looks like this promise will be difficult to keep.

On Friday (8/10), ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K) claimed to have carried out an attack in Kunduz, Afghanistan. According to reports, the total death toll from the attack was 46, while 143 were injured.

However, Afghan health officials estimate the death toll could be as high as 70 to 80. Meanwhile, according to the United Nations (UN), the death toll from the ISIS-K bomb operation reached 100 people.

Not only that, ISIS-K also carried out a suicide bomb attack at the Eid Gah Mosque, Kabul, on Sunday (3/10). As a result of the attack, five people were declared dead, all of whom were civilians.

Despite being terrorized by repeated bomb attacks, the Taliban claims to have controlled the threat of ISIS militants.

After a meeting with the US delegation, Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, said that the Taliban regime ensured that Afghanistan would not become a hotbed for terrorists in launching attacks on other countries.

“The issue of Daesh (as ISIS) has been controlled by the Islamic Emirate (Afghanistan) very well so far. The world should cooperate with us, not pressure us,” Muttaqi said in Doha, Qatar, as quoted by Reuters on Monday (11/10). ).

Even so, observers assess the threat of ISIS to Afghanistan is not a short-term threat.

“The intensity and breadth of the attack demonstrates the capacity and level of national reach that has taken the Taliban by surprise,” International Crisis Group Consultant Ibraheem Bahiss said in the Associated Press.
