Concerns Room about tampering with health statements in slaughterhouse

“This shows that this sector is ill,” says Lilianne Ploumen of the PvdA. She believes that a safe workplace is vital, especially during times of the corona crisis. “We have already seen that (temporary) employers in the slaughterhouses do not take the safety risks very closely, but now employees are also being pressured to work and forced to lie about their health.”

According to the employees of the slaughterhouse in Helmond, measures were quickly staged during inspections. The PvdA therefore wants even better controls. Ploumen: “We are now seeing it go wrong for the umpteenth time. That is unacceptable since it is about the health of employees and even public health is at stake.”

“Too urgent to wait”

The VVD advocates better cooperation between inspections. “If these stories are correct and people work in this way, then this will of course be beyond limits,” says Member of Parliament Helma Lodders. “An employer should not expose his people to this type of practice.”

The PvdA also announced tonight that it wanted a debate as soon as possible because of the increasing number of infections. The House of Representatives would debate it on August 12, but the PvdA wants a plenary debate to take place on Wednesday. According to the party, the situation is “too urgent” to wait.
