The KNVB wants to quickly submit a government support plan to Minister Martin van Rijn (Sport). The Football Association is deeply concerned about the professional football industry.
“Thousands of people directly or indirectly earn their income in professional football, while millions of people watch the matches and contribute 1.3 billion euros to GDP,” said a spokesman for the KNVB on Saturday with NU.nl.
“We are deeply concerned about the professional football industry. We and these others have expressed these concerns. We are, of course, working on a plan that we would like to discuss quickly with Minister Van Rijn.”
Friday Van Rijn left in the AD know that he has “no bag of money” ready for professional football. The KNVB fears that not finishing the Eredivisie and Kitchen Champion Division will cost the clubs a total of 400 million euros.
FC Utrecht: ‘May already practice matches in August’
The KNVB is also discussing sports with the government. Jordy Zuidam, technical director of FC Utrecht, added on Friday RTV Utrecht that the football association is investigating whether it is possible to play exhibition games again in August. In that case, the Domstedelingen hope to be able to play the cup final against Feyenoord.
The KNVB does not want to confirm whether Zuidam’s statement is correct. “We have said before that we are talking to the government,” a spokesman for the football association continues.
“The measures taken by the cabinet depend on the developments of the virus and the possibilities that are presented. We do not think it is chic to make the content of these conversations public.”
Due to the corona measures, professional football will be suspended until at least 1 September. The players of the clubs have started training again in recent weeks.
