Concern in Upper Manhattan due to increase in Covid-19 cases

Concern in Upper Manhattan at the increase in the number of positive cases of Covid-19.

“Because there is too much fun, around here people have too much fun, the restaurants are very full, so there is no precaution. That is why we are like this,” said a neighbor.

According to the latest statistics on positive results from October 31 to November 6, two ZIP codes in Northern Manhattan rank 2nd and 4th in the highest number of cases in all of Manhattan.

“An office that is at 136 and Broadway of Dr. Rosario, there were six positive cases out of 25, one day last week in another site five cases out of 30”, revealed Dr. Ramon Tallaj, president of SOMOS Community Care.

Zip code 10040, which runs from 187 Street to Dyckman, saw a 2.83 percent increase in infections or 26 new cases of the 919 people who were tested.

“You have a concern, an insecurity because you do not know who is who, who is infected who is not, so that is something invisible, it is an invisible enemy that we have right now,” said another young neighbor.

In Upper Manhattan there were 107 new cases of Covid 19 in total, during that week. The numbers are rising just as the experts had predicted would happen.

“It is ‘deja Vu’, but unfortunately that is what a pandemic is, we must all be aware of protecting each other and be responsible to prevent us from taking it to another place,” added Dr. Tallaj

On the streets of Washington Heights you can still see people without masks.

“People don’t want to understand that we have to use this, we have to follow the rules,” said a neighbor.

For months, the average coronavirus infections remained below two percent citywide but has now reached 2.5 percent

“If it continues like this it will be worse, it will be worse because they will have to close everything,” added another neighbor.

“It is necessary that we maintain the level of contingency against COVID-19. If not, our communities will be very affected,” said another neighbor.
