Composer Juris Ābols / Article / LSM.lv has gone to eternity

Composer Juris Ābols has passed away, LETA was informed by the Latvian Composers’ Union.

Ābols was born on April 16, 1950 in Rīga, in the family of painter Ojārs Ābols and philologist Mirdza Ābola.

Graduated from the flute class of Jānis Morics at the Latvian State Conservatory, receiving a diploma of a teacher and concert performer in 1972, as well as a composition class from Ādolfs Skulte in 1982. He then worked as a freelancer.

From 1976 to 1978, Ābols played in the orchestra of the Latvian National Opera. During the restoration of the country’s independence, he worked in the field of journalism, playing a piano trio together with composer Edmunds Goldstein and violinist Jānis Bulavas, playing classical, Latvian composers, as well as his own music.

From 1998 to 2005, Ābols worked as an organist in the field of music of the Catholic Church in Strasbourg, France.

Since 1987, Ābols has been a member of the Latvian Composers’ Union.

He pointed out in the Latvian Composers’ Union that Ābols was a very colorful personality in the Latvian cultural space with a unique and independent thinking – he inherited a philosophical perception of the world from his father, centered on humanism and the view of world social processes in their complex contexts, contexts and cross-sections.

“Starting with the first approbated works (” Five Latvian Dances “, Prelude and Toccata) in the theme center – reflections on man, his inner world, even in the deepest depths of the subconscious, to which a large number of psychedelic compositions have been dedicated since the early 80s, “pointed out the composers’ union.

Apple was a connoisseur of cultural history, ancient cultures and civilizations. His interests also included ethnogenesis and ancient tribes, whose research resulted in the compilation of the “Encyclopedia of Baltobalcan Studies” and separate research manuscripts.

On October 12 of this year, the Latvian Radio Concert Studio hosted the program “Pure Apple”, which was dedicated to the composer’s 70th anniversary, reflecting the author’s original writing and emphasizing his ideas about the need for spiritual ecology.

Farewell to the composer will take place on Friday, November 20, at 11 am in the small farewell hall of the Riga Crematorium.
