Competing with Spotify, Apple is Ready to Launch a Paid Podcast Service

TRIBUNKALTENG.COM – Apple is reportedly preparing a competitor’s own paid podcast service Spotify

Seeing the rapid development of the podcast industry, Apple is reportedly preparing a paid podcast service. This strategy is prepared so that podcast creators want to switch to Apple’s podcast platform.

This is known from the report The Information. So far, podcast content on Apple’s platform has only been distributed to Mac and iOS devices. That, too, for free.

Apple hasn’t actually commercialized this service yet. By creating a paid podcasting service, Apple has the opportunity to attract more podcast creators. Because until now, podcast creators are still struggling to find ways of montesation.

According to the Bloomberg newspaper compiled by Mac Rumors, Apple has improved its podcast service in recent years and is working on original content that comes exclusively.
Apple also plans to buy original content and will create audio spinoffs from films and programs on Apple TV +. Last fall, Apple also recruited Jake Shapiro, a veteran radio executive, to command the team.

According to The Information report, talks between Apple and the company that produce podcast services have been carried out, but it is not yet certain whether Apple will follow up on the cooperation and launch the service soon or not.

If realized, there is a possibility that paid podcast services will be bundled with other services such as Apple Music, Apple TV +, Apple Arcade, and Apple News + as part of the Apple One Bundles that Apple offers.

News about Apple’s paid podcast service has also been revealed by investment company, Loup Ventures earlier this month.

The company says that Apple will create several paid services, including Podcast +, Stocks +, and Mail +.

Podcast services are currently being loved. Even, Spotify spent about 800 million US dollars to acquire several podcast companies to maintain its position in the industry. Some that have been acquired are Gimlet Media, The Ringer, and The Joe Rogan Experience.

With paid podcast services, there will be a number of podcast content that are exclusive and only present on certain platforms, as summarized by KompasTekno from MacRumors, Tuesday (26/1/2021).
