How does the corona pandemic affect small and medium-sized companies in North Rhine-Westphalia – especially when it comes to investments, digitization and working on new ideas? This has now been investigated by the Mülheim Center for Innovation and Technology in North Rhine-Westphalia (Zenit).
More than half of the companies surveyed do not expect to reach the level from before the corona pandemic until the beginning of 2022. 65 percent stated that they continue to work on innovations and research projects or even expand them. Almost half of the companies also said that digitization should be pushed further.
Almost a third fear a decline in sales
20 percent of the companies surveyed expect an increase in turnover this year. 30 percent assume a decrease of around 30 percent. Up to 25 percent of the companies stated that they had specific payment difficulties – including salaries, rents, loans and suppliers.
