COMMUNIQUE: Sixth Medicine students from UIC Barcelona start clinical practices, preparing in case of regrowth

The university is committed to having students start their practices in healthcare centers in the summer due to a possible increase in COVID-19 cases in the autumn.

Barcelona, July 2, 2020.- Students in the sixth year of the UIC Barcelona Bachelor of Medicine have just started rotating practices in healthcare centers for the academic year 2020-21.

The university has opted for students to start this practice period in the summer, as every year, in order to make the most of their time and to be prepared in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak in the fall.

Hospitals and university and associated centers have developed a specific contingency plan to guarantee the incorporation of students with maximum security, both for themselves and for patients.

For their part, the students have signed a commitment to comply with the general health regulations and those indicated by each center. The students have received specific training at the center, where they have been provided with the necessary protective equipment according to the service.

The dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UIC Barcelona, Dr. Albert Balaguer, explained that “this incorporation is important so that students are prepared to help in the event of a rebound in the pandemic, and that they can collaborate effectively as they have demonstrated to be able to do so in their support and volunteer actions in recent months. “

The students of the Degree in Medicine, who saw part of the practices suspended due to the confinement, were involved in different care activities during the pandemic. In addition, all of them carried out courses, workshops, and online seminars, where they worked on the clinical interview, clinical reasoning and decision-making, as well as managing emotions and intelligence values.
