Now the unity is over: With regard to the Corona rules, some federal states are breaking away and have relaxed the isolation obligation. A patchwork quilt threatens again. But do you still have to get angry about this? Frauke Reinig asks it in her comment.
Such a jumble of rules is annoying. At least in theory. In practice, however, it hardly makes any difference. For example, when it comes to the isolation obligation: Anyone who is ill, i.e. has symptoms, must stay at home anyway, even in Schleswig-Holstein. On the other hand, there are corona-infected people who go to work without symptoms, certainly also in Hamburg, simply because those affected do not get tested. And it is possible that soon there will be different regulations on the obligation to wear masks on public transport. Schleswig-Holstein wants to abolish them by the end of the year.
Masks should remain mandatory on buses and trains
But is this really the relief many want? Meanwhile, the mask on buses and trains has been learned and is now perceived by many people as good protection in rush hour crowds during the flu and cold season. It is difficult to understand why some countries now want to abolish this rule. This is probably a political signal that many want and think is overdue: that the pandemic is finally over. Because one thing is clear: nobody wants stricter rules anymore.
Hamburg wants to avoid a possible withdrawal of the easing
If the Corona regulations are currently under discussion, it is a question of easing them. This is also the case in Hamburg. Here, however, the aim is to avoid that the easing of restrictions has to be withdrawn again if the waves of winter illnesses push the healthcare system to its limits again.
In view of possible new variants, the corona threat has not yet been fully verified. “It’s better to wait for spring” is the motto in Hamburg and other federal states in “Team Caution”. They wanted close measures in step with the Robert Koch Institute as a pacesetter.
The adjusting screws no longer play a role in everyday life
The anger at countries that have now withdrawn and have not even told their neighbors in advance is not masked. Politicians are debating who can announce the end of the pandemic and when. The fact that there is a patchwork of rules again is a nuisance for citizens. But that doesn’t have to upset anyone anymore: the adjusting screws that are still turned play hardly any role in everyday life.
