commanders’ Jayden Daniels Suffers Knee Injury; Status Uncertain
LANDOVER, MD – Washington commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is dealing with a knee injury sustained during Thursday’s 38-10 loss to the New York Giants, casting doubt on his availability for the team’s next game. Daniels exited the contest and was observed with a large ice pack on his left knee, walking with a noticeable limp.
An MRI revealed no major structural damage, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.Though, the severity of the injury and daniels’ potential absence are significant for a Commanders team aiming to build on last season’s success. If Daniels is unable to play, it would mark the first missed game of his NFL career.Washington’s strong 12-5 record and NFC Championship Game appearance last year were heavily influenced by player health, with only Jonathan Allen missing a comparable number of games due to injury.
Daniels has previously dealt with injuries during his rookie season, exiting a Week 7 victory over the Carolina Panthers with a rib injury and missing the second half of the regular-season finale against the Dallas Cowboys due to ”mild leg soreness,” as stated by coach Dan Quinn. Should Daniels be sidelined, Marcus Mariota is expected to start. Mariota filled in for Daniels in both previous instances last season, completing 33 of 41 passes for 366 yards and four touchdowns.
Thursday’s game proved notably costly for Washington beyond Daniels’ injury. Running back Austin Ekeler suffered a season-ending Achilles injury, as did defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. with a quad injury. Receiver noah Brown and tight end John Bates sustained groin injuries, and cornerback Jonathan Jones left the game with a hamstring injury. The team will assess the extent of these injuries in the coming days.
