The retail group Colruyt has installed the largest charging plaza in Belgium in the parking lot of its headquarters in Halle, which residents can also use outside office hours. It was installed by energy and fuel supplier DATS 24 – a Colruyt subsidiary – which also bore the entire investment of approximately 1 million euros.

The car park currently has 54 charging stations of 22 kilowatts and one fast charger of 60 kilowatts. This allows 109 electric cars or plug-in hybrids to charge simultaneously. According to DATS 24, this is already “the largest charging plaza in Belgium”. In time, the company can expand the number of charging stations so that more than 300 vehicles can charge simultaneously.

This is a so-called semi-public charging plaza. Outside office hours, local residents can also use the car park to charge their electric cars.

At the end of last year, DATS 24 had a network of 330 charging points, of which 270 in supermarket car parks and 60 in car parks of other Colruyt Group buildings. By the end of this year, the energy company wants to significantly increase that number.

“We are accelerating the roll-out of semi-public charging points on retail sites,” says Raf Flebus of DATS 24. “We are going to approximately triple the number of charging points. The aim is to offer around 1,000 semi-public charging points by the end of 2022.”
