The new strongman of Mali is Colonel Assimi Goita. He is one of five soldiers who appeared on national television this Wednesday, August 19 after the statement of Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
He was appointed president of the National Council for the Salvation of the People (CNSP) name given by the junta currently in power in Mali. New functions that Colonel Goita is already exercising. It was he who immediately led the meeting between the putschists and the secretaries general of the ministries in the Department of Defense.
Until his appointment as head of the CNSP, Goita was the head of special forces in central Mali.
