Colomiers. Creation of an international English section

From the next school year, Simone-Veil elementary school in Colomiers will host a British international section. A first in the Toulouse academy. “The opening of an international first degree section will give a clean and specific identity to the new Simone-Veil elementary school”, specifies Philippe Destable, deputy academic director of the departmental services of National Education. It is an opportunity to strengthen the attractiveness of the learning territory of the city. “

Unique in the academy

This device is the result of a tripartite partnership, of nearly 40 years, between the National Education, the city of Colomiers and the association English 31. A pioneer in the Toulouse academy, this section will offer a course British linguistics both integrated, from the first to the final year, and open to new students, who can also join the system in sixth, or second, at the college and the international high school Victor-Hugo de Colomiers.

“The City is very proud of the creation of an international section”, adds Catherine Clouscard-Martinado, deputy mayor for Education, parenting and the reception of educational leisure activities. “It is the culmination of long work, a strong involvement of past elected representatives of the city. It is part of the continuity, the desire to make the territory benefit from this wealth.” The English 31 association has nearly 40 years of experience in teaching English at the mother tongue level in Toulouse, thanks in particular to the support of the industrial sponsor Airbus.

“The investment of Garrett Smith, outgoing president of English 31 and of the director of the system, Xavier Vuiller, who both put forward this candidacy, made it possible to do all this”, underlines Penny Dickinson, new president of English 31. “Our teachers are all certified and graduated by the relevant UK authorities, and many of them specialize in language and literature and in history and geography “.

Students will be welcomed in the future Simone-Veil elementary school, which is scheduled to open on November 8.

60 children concerned from the start of the next school year

60 children, from CP to CM2, will be enrolled in the international section from September 2021. Thirty-six of them will come from the current English learning system, currently installed at the Lucie-Aubrac school . Four hours of lessons in English will be given each week, i.e. three hours of linguistics and one hour in another subject in English. It is an assignment committee bringing together National Education, English 31 and the city of Colomiers which will examine the candidates’ files. The academic results obtained within the framework of these courses will be integrated into the academic record. English teachers, from the English 31 association and certified by the National Education, will be integrated into the school’s teaching team.

“The new premises of the Simone-Veil school will have spaces dedicated to pupils and teachers in the British section, with the same digital equipment as in all schools,” explains Catherine Clouscard-Martinado.
