Colomiers: 31 positive cases, three deaths among residents of the EHPAD

Spotted at the beginning of the month, the cluster of the Emeraude Anne-Laffont residence, the EHPAD (establishment for dependent elderly people) managed by the city of Colomiers in the Marots district, unfortunately seems to be confirmed. The last two weeks, fourteen positive cases for Covid-19 had been identified among the four-four residents (1): four initially, ten later. Eleven municipal officers were also detected.

Confinement in room, visits impossible

A new PCR test campaign, carried out on Wednesday January 20 and Thursday January 21, identified 17 new cases among the residents, mainly with a symptom of fatigue. The city of Colomiers deplores the death of three residents, three elderly and already very fragile women. A fourth remains hospitalized with a vital prognosis. A fifth, however, is now negative for the Covid test. On the other hand, all of the municipal agents working at the nursing home are negative.

“The entire organization of the structure has been adapted. Exterior visits are still impossible and room containment for residents is maintained until the situation improves. The whole team of the municipal establishment is mobilized, in particular by organizing telephone meetings between residents and parents ”indicates the town hall of Colomiers. Karine Traval-Michelet, mayor and president of the Communal Center for Social Action and Health, is in permanent contact with Fabrice Costes, Director General of Services and Director of the nursing home, to follow the evolution of the situation and support families. The Occitanie Regional Health Agency (ARS) supports the equipment management with the Toulouse University Hospital.

(1) The EHPAD Emeraude Anne-Laffont offers 84 rooms for permanent accommodation; 10 beds in living units for people with Alzheimer’s disease; 5 day care places, for people living at home and suffering from cognitive disorders.
