The Cologne Sharks are still in crisis. On matchday 10, the Domstadt team also went bust in the second home derby against the Düsseldorfer EG – in the end it was 1: 5. For the team of coach Uwe Krupp it was also the sixth defeat in a row. This means that the 2002 champion remains in penultimate place in the north group. The front runners are now the Eisbären Berlin, who beat Bremerhaven 2-0. Meanwhile, ERC Ingolstadt celebrated a 3-1 away win in Munich.

As in the first duel at the beginning of the season (then 5: 4 after penalty shootout for Düsseldorf), DEG took the lead with their first chance to score. Jerome Flaake deflected a shot from Bernhard Ebner to make it 1-0 after just 59 seconds. While Cologne then radiated little danger in the power play, the guests immediately increased their first numerical superiority to 2-0 – a placed shot by Mathias From rushed through under the stick hand of Haie keeper Hannibal Weitzmann.

The second third did not start any better for Cologne: DEG striker Flaake prevailed against two Haie and maneuvered the disc with his backhand to make it 3-0 into the far corner. When Kyle Cumiskey scored the fourth goal after a nice combination (33rd), the match was decided. And DEG could have improved the result – but just before the second siren, Olimb was unlucky when it hit the post.

Düsseldorf remained superior and had a two-to-zero situation early in the final section, which Weitzmann was able to defuse. In the majority, however, the home side managed at least some cosmetic results. After Jason Akeson’s pass, Haie captain Moritz Müller slid the puck into the corner to make it 4-1. DEG youngster Alexander Ehl then made use of a sugar pass from Alexander Barta and finally put the lid on with the 5: 1.

In Berlin it took 46 minutes before the first goal was scored. After going it alone from the half-right side, Eisbären striker Marcel Noebels somehow worked the margin past Bremerhaven’s goalie Tomas Pöpperle into the mesh. The 1-0 win was rather flattering at this point, because the guests from the far north were superior in the second third. Bremerhaven pressed the equalizer again, but Leo Pföderl made the decision with his 2-0 into the empty goal.

Also in the match between the Red Bulls Munich and the ERC Ingolstadt there were only goals in the final third. Brandon DeFazio and Justin Feser put the Panthers 2-0 ahead with a one-two punch. Top striker Trevor Parkes gave the hosts hope again with his eleventh goal of the season, but Petrus Palmu’s empty net goal to 3-1 secured the Ingolstadt away win.
