Niklas Kienitz, deputy for economy, digitization and urban development of the city of Cologne, resigns. He informed Mayor Henriette Reker about his move on Saturday, “that he is no longer available for this office for personal reasons,” said the city.
Reker expressed her regret about the decision of the CDU politician: “I have to respect this decision, but I regret it very much. Niklas Kienitz would have made a very good alderman. Through his networking, his experience and many years of knowledge of urban development, he would have been an asset for the administrative board and the city of Cologne. I have already informed the city council of its decision. “
Criticism of Kienitz’s choice
There had recently been criticism of Kienitz’s election as head of urban development because the CDU parliamentary group manager was involved in the Stadtwerke affair in 2018.
The Council of the City of Cologne must now advise and decide on the next steps. The next regular council meeting will take place on August 18, 2021. (red)
