College student convicted of imprisonment for 3 months, official reprimands the defendant for no regrets (18:38)-20210106-Hong Kong News-Real Time News

The defendant is a tertiary student Liu Shimin (20 years old). He was charged with deliberately obstructing the police officer Cheung Tak Chun who was performing his duties at Tseung Kwan O MTR Station Exit A on November 14, 2019.

At sentencing, Guan Mo alleged that the case was serious. On that day, 150 people in black gathered around Tong Chun Street in Tseung Kwan O. There were many sundries on the road. The police officers ran to the crowd. There was an urgent need to stop the woman in black. Whether the investigation was related to the torture case, and the defendant’s pulling action was to help the woman escape from the police officer’s pursuit. The purpose of the pulling action was considered when sentencing, not the length of time. Although the pulling action was only 5 to 6 seconds, it was only because the police officer had it. Timely response can stop.

Mo Guan said that in the report, the defendant did not see any reflective behavior or remorse at all, let alone determined to change. Even if the report recommended a social service order, he would not accept it. The defendant was eventually sentenced to 3 months imprisonment.
