BYU and Utah Projected for College Football Playoff Consideration
PROVO, UT – New projections released by kslsports.com’s Mitch Harper indicate both Brigham Young University and teh University of Utah are firmly in the conversation for a potential College Football Playoff berth, though their paths differ significantly. Harper’s latest ranking places BYU at No. 11 and Utah at No. 12, positioning them as teams that could make a run toward the postseason.
These rankings, released november 26, 2023, are especially significant as they outline a potential playoff bracket based on current performance. The projections highlight the competitive landscape of college football and the potential for both Big 12 Conference teams to contend for a national championship. A playoff appearance would represent a major milestone for both programs, boosting visibility and recruiting potential.
According to Harper’s projection, BYU would be a First Four Out team if the season ended today, while Utah is also on the cusp of inclusion. The bracket forecasts a first-round matchup for Navy (American) at Texas Tech (5),Notre Dame at Oklahoma (8),Miami at Ole Miss (6),and alabama at Oregon (7).
The quarterfinal matchups would then pit Ohio State (1) against the winner of the Oklahoma/Notre Dame game, Indiana (2) versus the winner of Oregon/alabama, Texas A&M (3) against the winner of Ole Miss/Miami, and Georgia (4) against the winner of Texas Tech/Navy.
