Launaguet’s Théâtre Molière to Host Double Bill Celebrating Coline Serreau
Launaguet, France – The Théâtre Molière will dedicate a portion of its november programming to the works of celebrated French playwright and filmmaker Coline Serreau, staging two productions drawn from her extensive catalog. the performances aim to showcase Serreau’s signature blend of humanist insight and sharp social commentary.
The first play, “The Crisis,” adapted by Samuel tasinaje and directed by Éric Abrial and Fabienne Dessales, premiered this weekend. Inspired by Serreau’s 1992 film, the stage adaptation seeks to capture the film’s “critical verve and ironic tenderness” without simply replicating it. “The decision was to avoid copying and pasting the film,” Abrial stated, emphasizing the team’s ambition to create a fresh theatrical experience. Following “The Crisis,” the Compagnie Au Hasard des scènes will present “Quisantout & Grobêta” from November 14th to 16th, directed by Benjamin Dubayle, a longtime admirer of Serreau’s work.
Dubayle described the play as “a light-hearted comedy with serious remarks, not necessarily politically correct, written in a jubilant tone.” He noted Serreau herself expressed enthusiasm for the production, highlighting its personal importance to her. Both productions promise a vibrant exploration of Serreau’s themes, offering audiences in Launaguet a chance to engage with a vital voice in French culture. The Théâtre Molière was reportedly “packed” during initial performances of “The Crisis” in July, signaling strong local interest in Serreau’s work.
