Colin Montgomerie, recognition of a successful career

Eight time winner of the Order of Merit of the European Tour, a Ryder Cup legend, member of the Hall of Fame of golf, great conquests of Colin Montgomerie that has been recognized with the CPG Lifetime Achievement Award 2020 for him European Tour.

Previously the award was received by a plyade of golf legends, Severiano Ballesteros, Tony Jacklin, Alison Nicholas, Bernard Gallacher, Bernhard Langer, Nick Faldo, Jos Mara Olazbal and last year’s recipient, Robert Karlsson.

Over several decades, Montgomerie’s career has allowed him to achieve more than 50 victories worldwide, a record of eight European Tour Order of Merit titles – which included a streak of seven consecutive titles from 1993 to 1999 – and currently ranks fourth on the list of European Tour players with the most wins.

On her recognition, Montgomerie commented: “I just want to thank CPG for honoring me in this way. At 57, a lifetime achievement award means a lot and this is something to treasure.”

“We are delighted to be able to recognize Colin’s accomplishments and contributions with this year’s CPG Award, the successes he has had throughout his career and his impact and leadership on Team Europe at the Ryder Cup have placed him firmly among the elite of golf. “said CPG Executive Director Ian Randell.

Colin’s accomplishments go beyond individual golf, as he is considered one of the best Ryder Cup players in the history of the biennial event. With eight appearances representing the European team, he has never lost a singles match and has an exemplary match record of 20-9-7 throughout his Ryder Cup career. In 2010 he was the captain of the European team that won the United States Celtic Manor Resort, by a result of 14.5 to 13.5 points.

Colin now enjoys a career on the Legends Tour and the Champions Tour, having already won seven Senior 50+ titles, including three Majors – two Senior PGA Championship and a victory at the US Senior Open.
