Colima declares emergency by COVID-19

The Governor of Colima, José Ignacio Peralta Sánchez, today declared a state of emergency in the entity due to the coronavirus.

The declaration empowers to implement measures to safeguard the health of its inhabitants before COVID-19, such as isolation and quarantine of those infected, as well as the suspension or restriction of activities and classes.

The Special Session of the State Council for Civil Protection approved this afternoon the president’s request, after Yesterday Colima reported the first positive case from COVID-19 in a male patient, who came to the entity on March 13 after returning from a trip to Germany.

“The state of Colima is declared in emergency in the face of the imminence, high probability or occurrence of a health disaster derived from the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV2 COVID-19 coronavirus,” says the statement read by Peralta Sánchez.

“The present declaration is issued so that the measures of prevention, security, detection and mitigation of the spread of the SARS-CoV2 COVID-19 coronavirus are implemented and contemplated to safeguard the life, integrity and health of the population, as well as their property, the strategic infrastructure, the productive plant and the livelihoods in the territory of the State of Colima “.

Among the measures contemplated are also the inspection of people entering the state and their luggage; entering places to control and combat the pandemic.

As well as the suspension of activities in childcare centers and in basic, upper and upper level, public and private schools may be ordered.

It also empowers the State Government to acquire medical equipment, diagnostic agents, surgical and healing materials, hygienic products, as well as merchandise, goods and services without public tender for the quantities or necessary concepts.
