Colgate Softball adds Mike Smith to Coaching Staff
HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate University softball has announced the hiring of Mike smith as an assistant coach, bringing a diverse background in player development, data analysis, and collegiate baseball experience to the program. Smith will focus on outfield instruction and leveraging technology to enhance player performance.Head Coach Melissa Lamison-Myers expressed her enthusiasm for the addition, stating, ”I am beyond thrilled to welcome Mike to our staff. His passion and work ethic will most certainly make an impact right away. I am excited to see how he can elevate our outfield play and his ideas on utilizing our technology to its fullest potential.”
Smith joins the Raiders after serving as an assistant baseball coach at Le Moyne college from 2022-24, where he contributed to back-to-back 20-win seasons, culminating in a 34-victory campaign and a Division II East Regional appearance in 2023. At Le Moyne, he specialized in hitter development utilizing Blast Motion and Rapsodo technologies, while also managing pitching data and instructing infield and outfield defense. He was also responsible for capturing and editing video for player development.
Prior to Le Moyne, Smith gained experience with the Syracuse Mets, working in their front office (2022-23). He also served as a data and technology manager for Prep Baseball Report (2021) and as Director of Baseball Analytics for Power Arm Performance (2019-20). Additionally, Smith has experience as a private hitting, fielding, and pitching instructor.
A graduate of Le Moyne College, Smith was a standout player for the Dolphins, finishing his career with a .311 batting average, 133 hits, and 12 home runs. He earned All-Region and All-Conference honors in 2022 after batting .340 with 10 home runs, and was named to the NE10 First Team, NCBWA East Region Second Team, and ABCA/Rawlings East Region Second Team. smith was a member of Le Moyne teams that participated in the NCAA tournament in both 2018 and 2022.
Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance (2021) and a Master of Arts in Administration (2022) from Le Moyne.
