Cold core vortex affects the country – Noticieros Televisa

Since early Monday morning, frosts have been recorded in Aguascalientes, Baja California, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Coahuila, Durango, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nuevo León, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas.

During the day, the atmosphere will continue from cold to very cold during the morning and night in entities of the Mesa del Norte and the Mesa Central.

Minimum temperatures of -10 to -5 degrees Celsius are forecast in the mountains of Chihuahua and Durango; from -5 to 0 degrees Celsius in the mountains of Aguascalientes, Coahuila, State of Mexico, Sonora and Zacatecas, and from 0 to 5 degrees Celsius in high areas of Baja California, Chiapas, Mexico City, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala and Veracruz.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN), of the National Water Commission (Conagua), recommends that the population avoid prolonged exposure to cold environments and sudden changes in temperature, as well as to wear warm clothes and pay special attention to children, people of the elderly and sick, in addition to attending to the indications of Civil Protection of their locality.

Wind with gusts of 60 to 70 km/h is expected in Aguascalientes, Durango, Guanajuato, Jalisco, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas; wind with gusts of 50 to 60 km/h in Chihuahua, Coahuila, Hidalgo, Nuevo León, Puebla, Querétaro and Tlaxcala, and wind from the south with gusts of 50 to 60 km/h on the coasts of Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz and Yucatan. Intervals of showers are expected in Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Tamaulipas, as well as isolated rains in Campeche, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo and Veracruz.

The rains could be accompanied by electric shocks.

The aforementioned meteorological conditions are caused by the cold core vortex that will move along the northern and northeastern border of Mexico, and the subtropical jet stream which will cross the north of the country.

It is expected that by the end of the day, the cold core vortex will move over Texas, the United States of America, and the Gulf of Mexico, so it will no longer affect the national territory.

An anticyclonic circulation in the middle levels of the atmosphere will cause a warm to hot evening environment, so maximum temperatures of 35 to 40 degrees Celsius are expected in Chiapas, Colima, Guerrero, the coast of Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Oaxaca and Sinaloa, and 30 to 35 degrees Celsius in Campeche, Hidalgo, Morelos, southwestern Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, southwestern Sonora, Veracruz, and Yucatán.

There is also a low probability of rain over entities in the northwest, west and center of the Mexican Republic.
