Coffee feud ends with four injured and one detained in Braga

The Anti-Fascist Unitary Front (FUA) will organize two demonstrations on Friday, in Lisbon and Coimbra, and two on Saturday, in Porto and Braga, against the death of actor Bruno Candé and “all victims of racism”.

“We will assume our commitment to the anti-racist struggle, one of the struggles that make up the anti-fascist struggle (…), organizing tributes to Bruno Candé and all the victims of racism and fascism, in Portugal and worldwide ”, Says a statement released on Tuesday night.

According to the FUA note, Friday’s demonstrations will take place in Lisbon, at 18:00, with a meeting point in Largo de São Domingos, and in Coimbra, at 18:30, in Praça 08 de Maio.

On Saturday, protests continue in Porto, at 16:00, on Avenida dos Aliados, and in Braga, also at 16:00, on Avenida Central.

In the statement, the United Anti-Fascist Front disapproved of “yet another crime”, which it classified as “racist, from an already long and sad list”.

Bruno Candé, 39, was shot on Saturday by another man, 76, in Moscavide, in the municipality of Loures, district of Lisbon.

In a statement released the same day, the family said that the actor “was shot at close range” and that the suspect of Bruno Candé’s death had already “threatened him with death three days earlier, uttering various racist insults”.

The actor was married and had three young children.

The suspect of the homicide, who referred to the silence when he was heard on Monday morning, in the Court of Loures, will await trial in pre-trial detention, a judicial source told Lusa.

The United Anti-Fascist Front considers, through the note released on Tuesday, that this crime is the “result of hatred” that is “promoted by the extreme right, namely by [partido] Enough ”.

FUA presents “its condolences to the whole family of Bruno Candé”.

“We hope that this crime will not be overlooked by those in law and that the courts will act accordingly so that justice can take effect”, underlines the statement.

Also on Tuesday, the Cooperative Action group – Artists, Technicians and Producers, an organization that emerged in the field of culture, in response to the crisis caused by the pandemic, put a petition online, in which it requires the Government to make available of a lifetime subsidy for Bruno Candé’s family.

The actor started his journey in the theater group of Casa Pia and later attended the formation of Chapitô, where he participated in various shows.

Bruno Candé worked, since 2011, with Casa Conveniente, by Mónica Calle, where he participated in the show “The Mission – Memories of a Revolution”, by Heiner Müller, which was distinguished with the award for Best Show of the Year, in 2012, by Portuguese Authors Society.

The actor was also part of the cast of several soap operas, such as TVI’s “Only Woman”.
