Coffee, a beloved drink to be consumed with common sense

The coffee, an undisputed symbol of Italianness in the world, it is a beloved drink. To realize this, just remember that, on average, the inhabitants of the Bel Paese drink 4 coffees a day. The figures in the rest of the world are a bit different but, let’s face it, still very interesting.

These two nutrients are essential for the efficiency of the immune system and for protection from seasonal diseases, such as colds and other ‘ailments’ caused by winter colds.

Both vitamin A and vitamin C are essential for the fight against i free radicals, responsible for the oxidation processes of our body. When it comes to free radical damage, it is good to remember that they mainly concern the integrity of the cell membrane and mitochondria.

These are extremely serious consequences: the cell membrane, as the name implies, protects the cells of our body. Mitochondria, on the other hand, are crucial for energy production.

Coffee: why it could prove to be an ally of Covid-19

At this point, it is natural to wonder why coffee could turn out to be a unexpected ally of Covid-19. We have just seen that free radicals can cause significant damage to our body.

Among the main consequences of their excess are the damage to the cell membrane which, consequently, is more attackable by viruses. This, in a nutshell, means that our body is more sensitive to the ‘firepower’ of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the Covid-19 pathology.

Tell me how you eat, and I’ll tell you who you are: this reinterpretation of a famous proverb can in turn be changed into “Tell me how you eat and I’ll tell you how you are”. A balanced diet, characterized by a good balance between nutrients and rich in antioxidants, is in fact essential for health.
