Cocoshkov: I wouldn’t be working in Istanbul if Dog chose Donchic in the NBA draft two years ago

ULEB Euroleague and Turkish Basketball League Club Istanbul “Fenerbahce” head coach Igors Kokoškovs commented on the performance of Lukas Dončič, the Dallas Mavericks club, of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

It has already been reported that Željko Obradovičs, the most titled coach of the Euroleague, left Fenerbahce in the off-season. He was replaced by 48-year-old Cocoshkov, who served as assistant head coach in the NBA’s Sacramento Kings last season.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, a specialist from Yugoslavia has worked in the United States. Coco-Kowkks has spent most of his coaching career in North America as an assistant to the Clippers of Los Angeles, the Pistons of Detroit, the Cavaliers of Cleveland, the Magic of Orlando and the Jazz of Utah. In 2004, Cocoshkov became an NBA champion as an assistant.

The coach has quite a bit of experience as a head coach – 2018/2019. In the season, the specialist managed the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) club Phoenix “Dog”, with which he showed the second worst win-loss balance in the league – 19-63.

Just before that season, “Dog” had its first choice in the draft. The team chose Deandre Eiton, while Dončič chose the Atlanta Hawks with the third number and switched to Dallas.

“Luke has a fantastic development dynamics. Last year he was one of the most talented basketball players in the world, but now he is simply one of the best. We must not forget that he is only 21 years old and he will play for another 17-18 years. I believe that if he is healthy, he will be able to win the champion’s ring. We knew he would be one of the best, but who expected it to happen in such a short time? I think no one. We are talking to you in Istanbul, but I would not be sitting here if Phoenix chose Donchic in the 2018 draft, ”Kokoshov said.
