Coca-Cola to invest 1 billion euros in France over five years

The American group Coca-Cola and its bottler in France plan to invest together up to a billion euros over five years, they said Sunday on the eve of “Choose France”, an event dedicated to the attractiveness of the France for foreign investments.

“Today’s announcement demonstrates our continued commitment to France by making a lasting contribution to the economy and society for the years to come,” said American group CEO James Quincey, quoted in a communicated. This investment plan will be the subject of a meeting between James Quincey and Emmanuel Macron Monday as part of “Choose France”, organized in Versailles.

Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP), an independent bottler in which the American group Coca-Cola only holds 18%, has therefore planned to invest 500 million euros to further strengthen its production and distribution network.

CCEP, which has already invested 350 million euros since 2013 in its five factories in France, intends in particular to equip the Dunkirk site in 2020 with “a state-of-the-art aseptic bottling line,” said the group in a press release. This amount will also allow “to introduce a greater quantity of recycled materials into bottles or cans and to replace plastic with cardboard for secondary packaging”, he assures.

In parallel, Coca-Cola Company, the American parent company, will invest 500 million euros to “support the development of its current brands and introduce new products on the French market”. After the launch of Fuze Tea and the acquisition of the French brand of fruit drinks Tropico in 2018, Coca-Cola intends to “strengthen its leading position” and “accelerate its entry into new categories of drinks”, according to the text.

“These investments will support the development of its brands in the media, through brand experiences or through strategic partnerships, such as support for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” said the press release.

More than 2,800 people work for Coca-Cola in France according to the company.
