Coca-Cola joins the boycott campaign for Facebook .. and withdraws its advertisements over the network

ATLANTA, United States (CNN Business) – Coca-Cola said on Friday that it will pause all its social media ads for “at least 30 days”, starting from July.

Coca-Cola is the latest brand to drop ads on Facebook and Instagram, amid a growing boycott of the network over its handling of hate speech and misinformation.

“We will take this time to reassess our advertising standards and policies to determine whether reviews are required internally, and more than we should expect from our social media partners to free these platforms from hatred, violence and inappropriate content,” Coca-Cola said in a statement.

The company statement added: “We will teach them that we expect more accountability, action and transparency.”

The boycott of Facebook advertising has escalated, after many prominent brands have participated.

On Friday, Facebook shares ended its business down more than 8%, despite last-minute efforts made by the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, by announcing new policies aimed at curbing hate speech and misleading information.
