CNN has trouble with Tesla CEO over respiratory report> teslamag.de

The US news channel CNN, which is already in a kind of permanent conflict with President Donald Trump, has made a new powerful enemy with many followers: “I find the most surprising thing that CNN still exists,” wrote Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Thursday on Twitter, supported by around 160,000 “Like” statements by Friday noon in German time. In addition, the Tesla boss blocked the station’s communications chief, as he demonstrated with the screenshot. This was triggered by a CNN report on ventilators for severe coronavirus cases that had been promised by Tesla and were not previously delivered.

Tesla did not respond to CNN’s request

The report actually came as a surprise, as several hospitals in the United States have reported receiving medical equipment from Tesla since the end of March. However, CNN quoted a spokesman for the California governor as saying that it had not yet received a single message from Tesla about a ventilator donation from Tesla. Inquiries to Tesla remained unanswered (as is often the case), and the broadcaster published an online article titled “Ventilators Promised by Elon Musk Never Delivered to California Hospitals, Governor’s Office Says”.

First, this news – with a much less reserved headline – came from the local publication The Sacramento Bee, which was hardly noticed. The CNN message, including a Twitter hint, prompted immediate reactions. Several users once again showed thank-you messages from various hospital teams in the USA from the past few days. Soon afterwards, the Tesla boss also spoke up and published a list of hospitals that would have received 1165 Tesla ventilators; this is not even complete.

While CNN withdrew from requesting and not receiving a Tesla statement on the statements from the governor’s office, several Twitter users pointed out that enough hospitals had confirmed the receipt of Tesla devices for everyone to see; CEO Musk himself said on a defense of the CNN spokesman, that could have been found out easily with the search function of Twitter. Soon after the spokesman showed his Twitter blocking by the Tesla boss.

Real question in the background

In the background, the heated debate led to the question of how it can be that hospitals in California also publicly thank Tesla donations, but at the same time the governor declares that no ventilator deliveries have yet been reported in the state . Initially, the CEO Musk did not respond to Governor Gavin Newsom’s Twitter request to help clarify the matter. Newsom announced on March 23 that the Tesla boss had flown 1,000 ventilators to Los Angeles, which are now being distributed.

After the first deliveries, there was confusion and disputes as to what Tesla actually donated (according to Musk, they were bought from stocks in China). Some of these are apparently so-called BiPap machines, which are normally only used for minor breathing problems and can even spread the corona virus unmodified. However, several medical practitioners reported that the risk could be avoided with modifications and the devices could be converted for invasive use. Musk also said that all hospitals had been informed of the exact type before delivery.
