BEAR SHOT. Best PhD candidate in 50 years
Beerschot is in the lead in the Jupiler Pro League after 14 match days, with 28 points and 4 defeats. In the last fifty years, a PhD student has never done better. In 1996-97 Mouscron gained 26 points after 14 match days, but never was a brand new first division team in first place at that time.
From only 28 points and reeds 4 defeats are not impressive numbers. It is not exceptional, however, in the last fifty years. In 1978-79 the later champion Beveren SK only had 26 points (converted to 3 points per victory). Club Brugge (1975-76) and Anderlecht (2014-15) also did less well with 27 points. Just like Beveren in 1979, Club and Anderlecht became champions in those seasons.
With 4 losses after 14 match days, Beerschot equals the record of Zulte Waregem in the 2012-13 season. Francky Dury’s team should only leave the title to Anderlecht on the very last day of Play-off 1. (lvdw)
Nainggolan becomes ambassador
Welcome Radja: A remarkable title that Beerschot sent out to the world on Monday afternoon, but for the supporters already start to dream: Radja Nainggolan, as a former youth player who eventually broke through on the big stage, becomes the ambassador of the Kiel club. Everyone is fit for competition at RC Genk. While the eleven basic players of the match at Cercle Bruges completed a relaxed training on Monday afternoon, the fifteen other core players – supplemented by nine U23 players – went full throttle in a mutual friendly game of two 35 minutes. In the end, five goals were scored by Dessers, Seigers and the reserves Nemeth (2x) and Cuypers. The Genk youngsters seized the opportunity to show themselves to head coach John van den Brom with both hands, the U21 competition will resume in January at the earliest. (mg)

The substitutes for Anderlecht won amicably 4-1 against RWDM yesterday. Luc Nilis was an attentive spectator on his first day as a trainee trainer at the Purple & White. It is becoming a habit at OHL: putting someone on the competition sheet who does not start. Brys’s intention is to respond to the position of the opponent, which is only announced an hour before kick-off, and to surprise the opponent. Yesterday at Antwerp it was De Norre who would play, but in the end Maertens turned out to be in his place. There was another madness on the competition magazine: Schouterden suddenly sat on the bench at OHL after eleven years, but that turned out to be an administrative error. (mah)
STVV. Suspensions threaten
