Ladislav Potměšil was known for his endless sense of humor, which he enjoyed his surroundings. But he only wanted to go on his last journey in the company of his loved ones. “It will take place in a family circle, because that’s how my father wanted it, so we respect that wish,” said son Jan.
In recent years, Potměšil has hardly appeared in public and, for health reasons, had to be hung on the nail and acting. “My father spent the last years at home with his family, especially with his mother, who took great care of him. And I thank her very much for that,” said Jan Potměšil.
Ladislav Potměšil has over a hundred roles, but there were those that remained deep in his heart. “Dad really liked to remember working with director Brynych and at the same time often such a crazy film Oasis. And Disco stories, it was a heartbeat,” said the son of a popular, especially comedic, actor.
Smoky always said he preferred comedy roles. But he also mastered the dramatic ones, among other things in his two long-term theatrical engagements. He was in the Realistic Theater (now Švandov) from his studies until 1988, after which he moved to the Pod Palmovkou Theater for a short time.
He has been performing at the Vinohrady Theater since the early 1990s, and remained a member of the ensemble until 2007. He played, for example, in the theatrical version Sure, Minister or Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
“I am very sorry, because it is a pity for every quality actor. We will be happy to send a flower for the theater, because the family wishes to say goodbye in a narrow circle, so we will participate at least by memory,” said Tomáš Töpfer, director of the Vinohrady Theater.
Potměšil’s unique sense of humor is said to have been enjoyed by his whole family, and he liked to invent fun games and stories for his three children.
