On the island of Rügen, the fire brigade had to rescue two men with a risky mission. They wanted to climb down a 70 meter high steep slope. Then one of them slipped.

With a daring descent on the steep coast of Rügen two young men from Saxony put themselves in a dangerous situation and had to be rescued by rescue workers. As a police spokesman said on Tuesday, the two 19 and 18-year-old vacationers wanted to join about two kilometers north of the Königsstuhl on Monday Sassnitz climb down a steep slope about 70 meters high.

The 19-year-old slipped and could only cling to a branch at a height of around 60 meters in a dangerous position. His friend couldn’t help him. Another vacationer heard the two cry for help. About 20 helpers, including height rescuers from the fire department and a helicopter, arrived. They were able to rescue the helpless person with a few scratches, but otherwise unharmed.

Descending off the designated paths is prohibited on the chalk cliffs. Every year people die or are seriously injured because they come too close to the breakline – often without the necessary care – and fall.
