Climber fell in Molladalen – fled to hospital

On Friday night, the Main Rescue Center was notified that a climber had fallen under a rappelling in Molladalen in Ørsta. Both the Alpine rescue group for Sunnmøre, the air ambulance from Ålesund and the rescue helicopter from Florø were involved in the rescue operation, which was described as demanding by the Main Rescue Center.

– We have to bring out climbers, because we do not come by helicopter. This makes the operation demanding, says rescue leader Ståle Jamtli at the Main Rescue Center Southern Norway.

The person who fell was part of a tour group of several people, and it must have been the others who reported the fall. It is currently unclear how far the person fell.

Tour team participated in the rescue

While the tour group waited for helicopters and rescue crews, the injured man’s friends managed to do some camera rescue.

– They had to climb the person down a bit in the wall, so that it became easier for us to get to by helicopter. It was sensibly done by them, says Jamtli.

This meant that the rescue crews did not have to use the climbers who were with the helicopter. By 10 pm, the doctor and rescuer had reached the patient.

– The man is injured in the back and an arm. There are a number of fracture injuries, but there should be nothing life-threatening, says the rescue leader.

The person was taken out of the mountain at 22 o’clock, and arrived at Ålesund hospital at 22.30.
